If you’re anything like me, you’ll like to keep your hair looking right at all times. This means regular trips to the hairdresser, but it also means, general tidy ups every week to keep my hair looking at its best. Rather than going to the hairdresser every week, I use a hair clipper as it’s cheap and easy to use if you’re just wanting a tidy up on some key parts that are growing a little long.
The problem comes when you decide that you want to buy a set of hair clippers and need to choose which of the range are the best hair clippers for your needs. Before you walk out and buy a set of hair clippers, remember to have a look around, test as many models as you can find and read as many reviews across the internet as possible.
Choosing the Best Hair Clippers For Men
Choosing a set of hair clippers is not as simply as walking out and buying the most expensive model from one of the top tier manufactures as they have all has terrible models that do not work.
Take what we think is the worst set of hair clippers on the market, the Babyliss 7545U Easy Cut V2 Hair Clipper and Trimmer for Men which in principle should be a fantastic hair clipper that would allow you to easily cut your hair by yourself at home and guarantee that you’re getting the same length of hair all over your head.
The problem is that unless your hair points straight up and is fairly straight it simply does not work. Quite frankly I could not make it work, and no one in the office could make it work correct, however I do have a few friends who love it a rave about it, however they typically have a very specific type of hair. My advice, avoid it.

What Makes The Best Hair Clipper
Price – is important, however just because a hair clipper comes with a monster price tag does not mean it’s going to be any good. Take a look at the Panasonic ER-GP80 Hair Clipper which in principle should be a great hair clipper, however in reality, it’s totally useless.
Blades – The different types of blades on the market generally will not affect performance, however what it will affect is the durability of the clippers. Generally better blades means that the clipper will last longer.
Motor’s – Generally speaking, hair clippers come with three different types of motors, the rotary motor that can also be known as the universal motor, the magnetic motor and the pivot motor.
Corded Vs Cordless – As with many of the latest electrical products, cordless is becoming the norm, however if you’re going to buy a cordless hair clipper, make sure that you’re buying one with lithium batteries as we have seen so many occurrences of customers complaining about a cordless hair clipper, only to find out that they had bought a cheap model with cheap batteries and guess what, they batteries were burnt out.
Travel Clipper’s - If you’re in the market for a set of clippers that you can take with you on your travels, then take a look at the Andis T-Outliner Trimmer with T-Blade which comes with dimensions of 1.8 x 1.5 x 5.2 inches, whilst weighing in at .70 pounds which makes it perfect for traveling.
Accessories – Look out for accessories, specifically combs, adjusters and cleaners as buying accessories separately is often a very expensive process.
Brand – Usually we would highly recommend that you watch out for Brand Names where you’re paying 40-50% solely for the brand, however when it comes to hair clippers, it’s a great place to start. The problem with hair clippers is that they are easy to manufacture cheaply and therefore there are hundreds of different brands and designs on the market with some being fantastic and others completely useless. Generally if you’re buying a brand named product then testing will have been involved before the product has been released and you will be buying a better product.
Cost – Again very similar to the brand name above, we would recommend that you pay slightly more that you usually would for your hair clippers as this will ensure that you get a professional set of hair clippers that is lightly to work better in the long run.
Home Clippers Vs. Professional Clippers
What’s the difference? Generally there are two key differences between professional clippers and those that have been designed for home, the user ability and the price. Professional clippers are designed to be used day-in and day-out over the year and therefore come with bullet-proof mechanical workings. They cost more, but they have been built to last.

You can also remove the guard for a cut of 0.5mm if you want something particularly short. The blades can be quickly and conveniently washed, which offers a no-fuss haircut, and three attachments are included for your beard, which are at lengths of 1.5mm, 3mm and 5mm.

A small amount of users have reported two recurring problems – firstly, that the device is a little bit painful; and secondly, that the clippers occasionally seem to leave patches of uneven hair, regardless of the length setting. Overall, despite of these uncommon downfalls, the Philips 5000 Hair Clippers have great features and come from a good recognised name, so generally, they come very recommended.

The Wahl Chrome Pro Mains Hair Clipper part of the latest models from the trusted grooming brand Wahl and comes with everything you need to cut your hair from home to include combs, adjusters, and even Wahl own brand scissors. The clippers combine quality with simplicity in order to make your haircut easy.
The ChromePro design is great at cutting through even the thickest and toughest hair, while the stainless steel blades stay sharp to ensure durability and a reliable haircut for a long time. These blades are also very fine and thin, which means a more consistent cut.
The clippers come with 10 different attachment combs with lengths ranging from 0.8mm to 25mm, which offers a decent amount of choice, and the adjustable lever on the device means that you can methodically tighten up the edges around your neck and ears. There’s nothing more annoying than those stray hairs around the edges, and this system eliminates that problem.
The kit offers loads of other great features to make your haircut stand out, with a range of combs to assist your chop, a neck duster, a barber cape and the aforementioned DVD. Considering the price, all these extra trimmings are great value and all very welcome additions!
Some users have unfortunately reported that these clippers seem to occasionally pull at the hair rather than cutting it, which is of course not ideal for comfort. They also have a slight habit of overheating, and the haircut with these is a little slower than with some other top models.
They also don’t offer great durability in a small amount of cases. That said, most users have been more than happy with these clippers, and they do come with many great accessories, so they are still a very good option for cutting your hair at home.

The BaByliss for Men Super Hair Clipper is one of BaByliss’ new grooming products, and the professional technology makes them very simple and easy to use, ensuring a quick and pleasing chop. The precision-engineered Japanese blades offer a very quick and sleek cut with good durability and professional results, while the high-power motor means that your haircut is quicker and easier, so you can save a few precious moments!
The device also offers very good tapering control and edging technology, so you can trim and slice every last one of those pesky hairs around your earline and neckline.
What sets this apart from most other options is the mega battery life – the lithium battery technology charges very quickly and means that a fully-charged device can last up to a crazy eight weeks without having to be charged again. That said, you can also use it when plugged into the wall, so you don’t have to worry about keeping it charged.
The clippers are also pretty lightweight, which makes them ideal for transporting around, while the eight included comb guides give you the option of trimming your hair anywhere within the classic choices of grades 1 to 8.Although most users are very happy with these clippers, they unfortunately do seem to break more quickly than other options. In a small amount of cases, they also seem to suffer from durability problems after a few months of use.
Although the battery life is great, it seems that overcharging the device can cause the battery to break, which is of course avoidable but it’s a little inconvenient. That said, all of this aside, most customers are very happy with the product, so it’s still a great investment overall for those looking to cut their hair in the comfort of their own home.

Sminiker Quiet Hair Clippers are a new product from the lesser-known name of Sminiker. Despite the competition, the hair clippers come with a simple design and a top-quality cut. The durable and heavy-duty product makes your haircut quick and reliable, while the rounded edge of the clippers’ design stops you from cutting and nicking your neck or ears or accidentally hurting your skin.
The titanium blade won’t get rusty and will ensure that your clippers last for a decent amount of time without losing cutting power or ability. The device also offers a low-noise cut, with a volume of only 50 decibels, which around the same volume as low-level conversation or quiet traffic.
The clippers come with four combs with lengths of 3mm, 6mm, 9mm and 12mm, which is quite basic, but it should still be enough for most people who are seeking to cut their hair at home. The charging time is 2-3 hours and should last up to 8 hours of usage time. They are a little cheaper than some more famous brands, which is handy if you’re looking to save some money and bag a bargain.
It is worth noting here that these clippers are less reviewed than other more famous brands, which means that they’re not as well tested. So if you’re seeking guarantees of quality, you may want to look at a more expensive brand. Most users are very happy with these, but small amounts have complained of slightly lesser quality than other options on the market.
That said, they’re a good option of you’re looking to save some money and willing to take a risk on a more obscure brand. For the simple needs of an at-home cut, they should do everything you need!

The Remington HC4250 Quick Cut Clipper is a new design from Remington, and is very simple, functional and easy to use. It comes with nine fixed combs to offer a variety of hair-cutting lengths; 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5 mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm and 15mm.
The design is also very sleek and smart, which means that it’s easy to trim around your ears and neck, and that it fits neatly into your hand to ensure a comfortable trim. It charges quickly and the lithium battery runs for around 40 minutes, which is a little shorter than other options on the market. That said, you can use it when it’s plugged into the wall, so as long as you have a mains supply handy, it should be no problem at all.
It has a pretty smart design and very unique and unusual appearance, which might be of importance if you like gadgets that look good. It’s also much smaller than other options, so you can more readily and easily pack it away for a holiday or any other travels. Its size also means that it’s easier and quicker to clean. This also offers a much quicker cut than other options, so if speed is your priority, this might very well be exactly what you need.
Because of its small size, it is not as good with thick hair as some other options, so those with particularly robust hair might want to look elsewhere. Aside from that, there seem to be no other recurring complaints or issues, so this is otherwise a very good option. The price point is pretty good and this is overall a great product if you want something quick and simple for trimming your hair at home.
