The Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 gaming keyboard is the best silicone dome keyboard on the market right across 2018. If you want an epic gaming keyboard that is quiet to use, then get yourself one of these. You will not regret it.
Should Have Bought It
The Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 is the gaming keyboard that I wish I had bought. In the end I picked up the Razer Black Widow, however I do wish that I had picked up the S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 as I love the way that it combines the tradition of flashy designs whilst at the same time backing this up with performance that is hard to beat.
The one thing that put me off the Mad Catz is that the keyboard uses a variation of the silicone dome switches that is called P.U.L.S.E. Key Membrane.
Mad Catz STRIKE 3 Gaming Keyboard Review
Thee PULSE key membrane works very similar to any other silicone dome keyboard switches, however they have been designed to provide a better overall experience but provide better tactile feedback to the user therefore being much more similar to a mechanical switch.
The keyboard comes in three colors, Black, Red and White and whilst the chassis of the keyboard is plastic the corners are not symmetrical, but are finished with an angular asymmetrical design.
As with many Mad Catz keyboards the keyboard is design in two half’s with they keyboard on the left and the 10-key numeric pad, arrow keys and additional macro keys on the right. It does take some getting used to, however once your familiar with all the buttons, its surprisingly comfortable to use.
Detachable Wrist Rest
The keyboard comes with a detachable wrist rest which is firmly attached to the keyboard, however its finished with gloss which smudges the whole time and is impossible to keep clean. The S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 features adjustable back-lighting, which means that both the lettering on each key and also the glow behind and around each key can be lit up and the range of colors is huge, with over 16 million different shades and brightness levels.
The keyboard features a 12 total programmable macro buttons with the seven on the left being pure play macro buttons as they are not proper keys, but rather small buttons and 5 on the right side of keyboard which as half-height keys which really help to distinguish between the marco buttons and normal.
Again like all true gaming keyboards, the S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 comes with a sliding switch that lets you disable the Windows key to make sure that there are no interruptions during your game play.
Performance is great for both serious gaming or regular office tasks and I love the fact that Mad Catz have finally made a quiet keyboard that has the same performance as a mechanical switch keyboard, but with a silicon membrane.
I love the design and the fact that now I really have full control over where my macro keys are place and the light selection underneath it. With all the good things that I have said about the keyboard, I am sure you’re asking yourself, the question why i did not get one.
The answer, very simply is that I have always used mechanical keyboards and always will. I probably should have got this, it so much quieter and cheaper, however personally I just like my mechanical keyboards.
However it could do with some improvements, I hate the small macro buttons on the left side, I feel as if I am going to press all the buttons possible and when I am using the keyboard to play games I end up looking at the keyboard to make sure that I am pressing the right button which I have never done in the past.
I wish the left-hand buttons were more like the right handed macro keys, which are more traditional keys, but with half-height key-caps. This is amazing and really helps distinguish between small the macro keys.
Overall it's a cracking gaming keyboard that you should be buying. Check it out in action here.
