I hate ironing so much. I'm quite sure, it's the most boring thing I do on a weekly basis. Yes I try to iron in front of the TV watching the latest episode of game of thrones or house of cards, it's still frustratingly boring. What makes it slightly better is using the best ironing board on the market that has been designed to iron quickly and effectively thus helping to speed up the ironing process.
If you’re going to make this process easier you need to focus on three things, the iron itself, the ironing board and your ironing technique. If you’re looking for an iron, check out our steam iron reviews here, or our steam generator iron reviews here as in this review we’re going to focus on finding the ironing board.
Remember, the difference between ironing a shirt with the best ironing board on the market and that board that you bought at Tesco, is the difference between ironing a shirt in three minutes and ten minutes. If you need help ironing your shirts, check out this great video by T.M Lewin.
The Best Ironing Board
If you don't want to read the whole best ironing board review, and simply want to know what thought was the best ironing board on the market across the UK in 2018, then check out the Philips GC240/05. It's probably not the actual best, on the market, but what it defiantly is, is the best value for money ironing board across the who range of ironing boards that we've tested and we've really tested some ironing boards.
Across the market, there are probably better boards. We loved the Laurastar S7a, however it's a professional ironing board and therefore not exactly cheap, Professional Ironing Board. We also really liked the EOLO ironing board, which whilst substantially cheaper, it's still over £300 which is hard to justify for an ironing board. What the Philips lacks in performance, it makes up in value for money.
The design of the Philips makes sure it's well balance and totally stable. It's also large, clocking 49cm wide and 159cm long. It's also adjustable by over eight inches which make it ideal for both the taller or shorter person. Whilst it's adjustable, it's also safe given that it's been designed with a child lock to stop it collapsing on top of children and a carry lock to stop it opening when your moving it around.
The board cover is multi-layered with foam and felt, and topped by 100% cotton. This makes the ironing surface softer and smoother and your ironing easier. It's also been designed with extra wings on the shoulders of the board, which makes ironing shirts and other garments much easier.
Downsides are few and far between. The feedback across the internet are fantastic, with really the only complaint being the price, but this is the price you pay for a quality ironing board in the UK.
What Makes The Best Ironing Board
A bad ironing board will not hinder you from ironing your clothes, but what it will do is not help you make the process easier. Like many brits across the UK, I use T.M.Lewin shirts and there is a great video on YouTube where he shows you how to iron your shirts in two minutes. As part of his demonstration, the first thing he says is to get yourself a decent ironing board.
Width - when it comes to ironing boards, the wider the better. Width means more shirt can be ironed before you need to stop and move it and will help you speed up the process.
Length - this really depends how tall you are. The principle behind ironing board length is to get your entire shirts or trouser length on the iron at the same time. This means that you don't have to stop and adjust your shirts and can continually iron in one long movement.
Height - this does depend on whether you want to stand or sit whilst your ironing, however the idea here is to make it as comfortable as possible. You don't want to be hunched over your iron because its too low as this will cause back and neck problems.
Weight, Sturdiness and Portability - Personally this is not at the top of my priority list. Whilst I do want to move it around, its important it doesn't move around whilst i am using it.
Ironing Board Cover - generally most people stick with the board cover the iron comes with however it’s possible to upgrade. Generally the best ironing boards come with non-stick surface that prevent clothes sticking to the board and reflective properties to ensure the irons heat does not escape
Sleeve Attachments - make it much easier to iron shirt sleeves and whilst they’re not essential, it a decent option to look out for that will make your life easier.

Ironing Board Reviews
Philips GC240/05 Ironing Board
The Philips GC240/05 Ironing Board is a good option if you want something better than your bog-standard board without splashing the cash too much. It doesn’t have the tricks and touches of much more pricey models, but if you just want something simple with a bit of added flair, this is a great option. It's also what we thought was the best ironing board on the market across the UK.
It has the clever addition of extra wings on the shoulders of the board, which makes ironing shirts and other garments much easier. The board is extra large (clocking in at 49cm x 159cm), and features a large rest tray, so it’s nice if you like a large space to work upon. It also comes with a shirt-hanging zone to keep your clothes crisp just after you’ve pressed them, and has a storage basket for your as-yet un-ironed clothes (or for sticking your mobile phone or TV remote into).
The board cover is multi-layered with foam and felt, and topped by 100% cotton. This makes the ironing surface softer and smoother… and your ironing easier! The board also has a child-locked base, so it won’t collapse on the hands and fingers of your unsuspecting little tykes.
Most users have commented on how much they love this one – the design makes ironing faster, easier and more fun (believe it or not). It has a nice soft surface and it’ll eliminate the need for any (all too common) re-ironing sessions that come after using a sub-standard basic board.
It is a little bulky, and it’s somewhat more expensive than other (relatively) basic ironing boards, but if you want something with a few extra added features to make ironing more hassle-free, then this is absolutely worth the investment. It’s sturdy, it’s durable and it’s a nice addition to your ironing arsenal. It comes absolutely recommended.

This goes well beyond your standard iron to leave clothes with a professional finish. It’s unfortunately not too well-known, so it doesn’t have the guarantee of many reviews online.
It’s also a very expensive piece of equipment, substantially more so than other comparable items on the market. That said, if you’re willing to splash the case and to take a gamble on a relatively unknown product, this has loads of features that a keen iron'er will love. It presses clothes perfectly, it’s easy to use, and it’s built with you, your home and the environment in mind.
EOLO Domestic Ironing Board
The EOLO Ironing Board, first released in August 2013, is a brilliant piece of equipment if you’re on the hunt for something serious to help you with you ironing. This temperature regulation is monitored and controlled very easily by a thermostat. All of these touches make ironing easier and more effective… and less of a laborious, time-consuming venture. The heat shields on the iron also mean that your clothes stay well-heated without getting too hot or becoming prone to burns and singes.
The included boiler has a semi-continuous refilling capacity of two litres, the board height is adjustable, and the build of the board provides plenty of stability. It has a wide base to prevent the board falling or tumbling while you work. This one also comes with anti-scale resistor, so your iron should stay fresh and clean for plenty of time.
